Cape High graduation set for June 3

Cape Henlopen High School will hold its commencement ceremonies at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, at the high school football field. In case of rain, ceremonies will move inside to the gymna­sium.

Social studies teacher Bill Walls will be the guest speaker.

Parking will be first come, first served on school property, said Assistant Principal Janet Maull-Martin. Once filled, she said, vehicles will park at the bus lot off Kings Highway. A shuttle will transport visitors to the school grounds.

There is a 30 percent chance of rain for Tuesday; families will be notified through an alert system if graduation ceremonies move indoors, Maull-Martin said.

If moved inside, each graduat­ing senior will have five tickets for family members or friends. Once the gymnasium is filled, Maull-Martin said, there will be seats in the cafeteria and theater where the ceremonies will be simulcast.

Sheriff candidate Gooch to address Dems June 5

“Beau” Gooch, candidate for Sussex County sheriff, will present his platform at the next meeting of the Eastern Sussex Democratic Club Thursday, June 5. The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Bethany Blues, Route 1, Lewes. The meeting is open to the public.

ESDC recently announced its endorsements for Sussex County candidates.

They are: state treasurer, Sean Barney; state auditor, Brenda Mayrack; state Senate, District 6, Claire Snyder-Hall; state rep­resentative, District 14, Pete Schwartzkopf; state representa­tive District 20, Marie Mayor; state reprersentative, District 37, Paulette Rappa; Sussex County Council, District 4, Shirley Price; recorder of deeds, Alma Roach; and registrar of wills, Greg Fuller.

Milton to discuss Shipbuilder’s tower

Milton Mayor and Town Council will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 2, in the Milton Public Library.

Items on the agenda include possible approval of substantial expenditure to repair the founda­tion of the Shipbuilder’s Village water tower; possible vote on the Cannery Village punch list, development standards and sub­division approvals; an ordinance to amend the town code es­tablishing water conservation practices; and an ordinance to amend the code regarding side­walks.

The panel will also discuss and possibly vote on the cost of replacing the downtown clock and the style that might be used.

Mayor and town council will meet in executive session to dis­cuss the content of documents excluded from the definition of public record, including records with trade secrets, confidential/ privileged, commercial or finan­cial information, or exempt from public disclosure by common law.

Executive sessions, which are closed to the public, sometimes include discussions about strat­egy involving legal advice or opinion from an attorney with respect to potential litigation.

The panel will return to open session to discuss and possibly vote on executive session items.

Milton Theatre to hold grand reopening

Premier Centre for the Arts at the Milton Theatre is pleased to announce the reopening of the Milton Theatre. It went dark in 2010.

The festivities begin Saturday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m. with a red carpet, cash bar, raffles, live en­tertainment, and an art show. At 7:45 p.m. Premier will celebrate with the marquee lighting and ribbon-cutting ceremony. Then at 8 p.m., the stage lights will be lit for a full live production of the Broadway hit “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.”

PCA is an organization focused on educational programs in­tended to nurture well-rounded performers based in Middletown. Students at PCA not only re­ceive instruction rooted in strong technique, but also are given opportunities to perform. PCA students participated in over 200 student performances last year and are on pace to surpass that number in 2014, including a recent performance in Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
