In 1990 Rick, Steve and Valery Cordrey started RSC Landscaping with a dream and a vague plan for the future. The three started growing perennials in a field but soon learned container growing was more efficient.  Their first greenhouse was a secondhand one from from a nursery that had gone out of business in Millsboro.

RSC Landscaping was started on Richard and Mary Jane Cordrey’s farmland. The first work vehicle was a '90 Oldsmobile donated by their grandfather, and RSC Landscaping had only one job in its first year of operation.

Every year since then, the business has grown as new services are offered and new employees fill the ranks. East Coast Garden Center opened in 1999 with the vision of having a place for people to enjoy the pleasures of gardening, a place to have classes, meet new people, discover new plants, ask questions and be happy. Fifteen years later it offers all those things.

East Coast Garden Center and RSC Landscaping will celebrate their 15-year anniversary from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, June 14. Visitors can see new changes to the center, enjoy hot dogs on the grill, attend a 1 p.m. class on Propagation and shop the special sales. A complimentary aloe plant will go to each of the first 100 attendees.
