Jerrold 'Jerry' Harvey Sr., computer innovator

Jerrold “Jerry” Thomas Harvey Sr., 79, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 1, 2014. Jerry was born in Louisville, Ky. in 1934. He was in the first graduating class of Southern High School (1952), and graduated from University of Louisville with a bachelor of science degree in physics. He was an innovator in the early days of the computer industry, most notably at IBM where he worked for over 25 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ramona Albert; and five children, Jerrold Thomas Harvey Jr. (Katey), Kevin Harvey (Becky), Lynne Johnson (Wes), Suzanne Gwinn (Allen) and Matthew Harvey (Robin); as well as a younger brother, Jeff Harvey,Jr. (Vivian). He is the grandfather of 11 and great-grandfather of one.

Mr. Harvey lived most of his adult life in Maryland in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. He was an active churchgoer, singing faithfully in the choir and serving as an elder at Riverdale Presbyterian Church. He was also an avid square dancer, and a dedicated volunteer in the community for many years.

A memorial service will be held at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach, Saturday, June 7, at 1 p.m., and also at Louisville Memorial Gardens West, 4400 Memorial Gardens Drive, Louisville, Saturday, July 5, at 10 a.m.

Memorial donations in Jerry’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel in Lewes.
