Coastal-Georgetown AAUW announces scholarship awards
Coastal-Georgetown Branch of the American Association of University Women has awarded Patricia Lynn Sensenig, 2014 graduate of Sussex Central High School, and Bansri Patel, 2014 graduate of Sussex Technical High School, the 2014 Virginia Rust Scholarships for $1,500 each.
Thirty-six applications, including personal essays, were received from Cape Henlopen, Sussex Tech, Sussex Central, and Indian River high schools.
Sensenig’s essay describes her as a young woman highly motivated to succeed not just for herself but to help others. All of Patricia’s extracurricular activities, including concert and marching bands, require attention to details, precision, coordination, communication, and working with others, essential requirements for success in her chosen field of accounting.
Coastal Georgetown Scholarship Committee members noted Patel’s ability to seek out medical research opportunities and then design high-level experiments which have been recognized with national and Coastal Georgetown AAUW science awards. Bansri plans to attend medical school.
CG-AAUW President Penny Deiner presented the awards at each honoree’s high school in May. Members offered their congratulations in person during their luncheon meeting held June 19.
