Gordons Pond connector trail opens in Cape park

June 8, 2014

The long-awaited connector trail between the Gordons Pond parking lot of Cape Henlopen State Park and the Herring Point area at the north end of the park opened to bicyclists and walkers this weekend.  One rider called the trail "beautiful" while a park ranger patrolling in a four-wheeler said lots of people were out enjoying the new trail.

The trail includes a long boardwalk section that crosses salt marsh and dunes. The trail also circles more than half of Gordons Pond which is dry now, showing the effects of little rain in the past few weeks, or drainage gates being opened.

Delaware Gov. Jack Markell plans to officially dedicate the trail in a daytime ceremony June 18.
