RBHS hosts riding, walking tours of Rehoboth starting June 19
The Rehoboth Beach Historical Society announces the start of walking tours featuring a 45-minute gentle stroll around downtown Rehoboth Beach starting at 9 a.m. at the bandstand Thursday, June 26. The cost of the tour is $10. Reservations are required and may be obtained by calling the Rehoboth Beach Museum at 302-227-7310.
The first tour offered will provide general information about the history of Rehoboth Beach while touching on several of the storms that have shaped the coastline and the beachfront in town. Tour guide Jean Brolund will lead walkers from the Bandstand north of Rehoboth Avenue, pointing out landmarks and providing photos of historical sites and events. Topics covered are the native peoples of the area, the Methodist camp meetings, hotels and railroad service, and Horn’s Pavilion. Future tours will cover the area south of Rehoboth Avenue.
Tourgoers are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water or fill up a water bottle at the historic Women’s Christian Temperance Union Fountain on the Boardwalk, one of the landmarks mentioned on the tour. There are restrooms available at the Bandstand area.
The society also operates tours with the Jolly Trolley. The next trolley tour is Thursday, June 19 at 9 a.m. The cost of the trolley tours is $10, and reservations are required.
The Rehoboth Beach Historical Society promotes education about the history of Rehoboth Beach and operates the Rehoboth Beach Museum. Memberships are available. For more information, go to www.rehobothbeachmuseum.org.
