Sussex County Republican Women's Club hosts Republican candidates

June 16, 2014

At its recent meeting, the Sussex County Republican Women's Club hosted 22 Republican candidates, some of whom are running for office in the Delaware primary election Sept. 9. Members and guests had the opportunity to mingle with and speak to their candidates before dinner and eagerly listened as each took the podium and spoke to the audience, giving a snapshot of their platform and view for the upcoming election.

Notables such as Delaware senators Gary Simpson and Ernie Lopez, Sussex County Councilman George Cole, state treasurer candidate Ken Simpler, Sussex County sheriff candidate Robert T. Lee and 21st Senatorial District candidate Bryant Richardson attended the meeting. All of the candidates took time before dinner to answer questions in the informal setting and in general, charmed and chatted with the guests.

The office for Sussex County Council District 5 is being strongly contested by Rob Arlett and Orin Strickler, who are running against incumbent Vance Phillips for the seat. In another hotly contested race, Robert T. Lee is running against incumbent Jeff Christopher for Sussex County sheriff.

SCRWC President Alana Keeley said, “It was an honor for us to host so many of the women and men running for office to dedicate themselves to service on behalf of their constituents. It also was a great opportunity to see these dedicated people in a relaxed forum, informally chatting with our members and guests. It was a lovely and informative evening."

It is the mission of the Sussex County Republican Women's Club to assist in the election of Republican candidates, act as advocates for the Republican Party's principles and empower women to participate in the political process.
