June 11, 2014

CHEER has a great day of fun and entertainment scheduled for Saturday, June 14, at the Warren L. & Charles C. Allen Jr. CHEER Community Center, 20520 Sand Hill Road, Georgetown.

The Fourth Annual Car Show is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and this year’s show will include vintage trucks and motorcycles. Radio personality Bill Colly of WGMD 92.7 FM is scheduled to do a two-hour remote location broadcast from 10 a.m. to noon.  Food and craft vendors will be on site. There will be a live and silent auction, raffles, door prizes and many more fun activities.

What makes this year’s car show special is the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang, one of America’s most popular automobiles. Through the efforts of Walter Koopman, there will be  a special Mustang display honoring 50 years of this amazing vehicle. CHEER will also feature its famous brunch during the show.  Admission to the show is free; rain date is June 15.

The second part of the day begins at 5 p.m. inside the CHEER Community Center where visitors will enjoy an evening of Doo Wop with entertainment by The Jersey Jukebox and The Del Angels. There will be a dance floor for anyone who wants to cut a rug and a concession stand for those who want a burger, onion rings, a milkshake and many other "Happy Days" foods.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 day of show. This will be a sellout, so get tickets early.  Get tickets from Lynne Miller at the community center, 302-854-9500; Nancy Elliott or Anthony DelFranco, 302-856-5187. CHEER accepts cash, checks and credit cards (except AMEX) .
