Anita Peghini-Räber Gallery opens The New Romantics June 14

June 12, 2014

Anita Peghini-Räber Gallery, 49 Baltimore Ave. in Rehoboth Beach, is showcasing the artist's fresh series The New Romantics with an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, June 14.

Peghini-Räber's art hones in on the gorgeous environment of the Rehoboth/Lewes area during lush summer days. The early mornings at Lewes Harbor, for example, display golden tones and irresistible reflections; this is enough of an invitation for Peghini-Räber to begin painting.

“The idea of what is real and what is pure reflection is particularly intriguing to me. This invokes the philosophical question of 'Schein und Sein' - substance versus hype - and it's happening in real life," says Peghini-Räber. "The shifting of color tones and shapes cuts the image we perceive into fragments which constantly change due to the sparkling light, the breeze causing ripples into glassy surface of water - movement is omnipresent, shifting the perception perpetually. This is a visual feast I feel I need to take note of. The scene at the elegant contemporary landing of Lewes Harbor is constantly presenting new subject matter, from fishermen or an early morning standup paddler, to an elegant couple treasuring their togetherness."

"Listening to the gentle lapping of the water against the pilings while following the ripples forming wider and wider rings slows you down immediately and causes you to pause," says Peghini-Räber. “Shouldn’t we seek more pauses? I believe during the pause we become the most porous, because we fully live in the present, which may allow us a glimpse into our own intuition.”

The Rehoboth Beach Patrol is always a returning painterly subject for Peghini-Räber. "The lifeguards are inspiring young multitalented athletes. They form lifelong friendships while working out together to keep in top shape to save lives from the unruly waves. Their shaped bodies in striking red uniforms against blue waters and skies is great."

The public is welcome to visit the opening reception, where refreshments are provided by the gallery. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Sunday. Visit www.rehobothart.com.
