American Legion Post 5 honors Applebees for flying flag

June 14, 2014

Nothing shows patriotism for America more than flying the flag. Since American Legion Post 5 is in Rehoboth Beach, visitors flock to the three Tanger Outlet centers. Each center flies the flag on a large flagpole, which seems to be the design for all outlets, regardless of the company tenants.

On the other hand, individual businesses have to make a conscious decision to fly the American flag. American Legion Post 5 noticed the hometown look of a flag at the Applebee’s, adjacent to one of the outlets. The flag and pole were the size many homeowners use. Applebees flag was hanging at their front door, welcoming guests as they arrived. They also have a sign by two parking spaces designated for veterans!

In a meeting of the Henlopen Post 5 Ladies Auxiliary, the Americanism chairperson proposed recognizing businesses that fly the flag each day or do other patriotic things. Auxiliary members endorsed the idea. A certificate, printed on flag paper, was framed for presentation to the general manager of Applebee’s. Other such presentations will follow.

This Saturday, June 14, is Flag Day! Everyone should fly their flags with pride!
