Striders Triple Crown Series on tap this weekend

June 13, 2014

Everyone loves a challenge, and the Striders will again offer a challenge this weekend, as we will mark the fourth annual Striders Triple Crown Series consisting of three events, three towns, in three days.   Runners or walkers who reach the finish line in all three events will qualify for Triple Crown Awards to be presented at the Jungle Jim’s 5K Sunday, June 22.   There is not a separate Triple Crown application, nor an entry fee. To register for the Triple Crown, just register for the individual events as you would normally do and we will track your results.  First stop is Georgetown with the Library 5K Run at 7 p.m., Friday. Second stop is Irish Eyes in Milton on Saturday with an 8 a.m. start, while the final stop is the 24th annual Fathers Day 5K Run in Rehoboth Beach.  Good luck to all looking for a challenge! Saturday’s Irish Eyes 5K and Sunday’s Fathers Day 5K will complete the first Irish Eyes 6-Pack Series where runners and walkers have taken part in the following six events:  Seashore Classic Half-Marathon & 5K, Mothers Day 5K, Lewes Habitat 5K, Blue Gold All-Star 5K, Irish Eyes 5K, Fathers Day 5K.

PICS/AICS 5K - The Striders Team loaded up some gear and flew west to Chicago this week to produce a 5K for the PICS/AICS National Conference that was being held at the Marriott Downtown just a few blocks from the river.  A group of 95 doctors attending the conference was shuttled on a double-decker bus at 5:30 a.m. Monday morning to Jane Adams Park, which connects to the Riverfront Path that lines the water for 13 miles.  At 6 a.m. the race went off with Strider Enos Benbow leading them to the turn-around at 1.55 miles on a rented $7/per hour one-gear cruiser bike.  Striders Emily Ritter and Monique Bamforth ran the finish line.  By 7 a.m. the docs were back on the bus and heading to breakfast with the conference resuming at 8 a.m.  The Striders went into advance cleanup mode, getting gear ready to ship and boarded a plane at 11:45 for the 90-minute flight back to BWI.  The conference is held at different parts of the country with professionals attending from all over the world.  The Striders have traveled with the conference to Washington, D.C. in 2012, Miami Beach in 2013, and Chicago in 2014.  2015 is scheduled for Las Vegas.

Dave Reynolds Biathlon - The popular 24th Dave Reynolds Biathlon is coming fast and if you’re not registered, you need to do so now by going to www.seashorestriders.com and go to event information July 6.  The race will be a half-mile swim, followed by a 5K run that will take place in front of the Rehoboth Beach Patrol Headquarters.  There is also a 2-mile memory walk that will take place on the Boardwalk.  There will again be individual divisions in five-year age groups, Clydesdale & Filly divisions, as well as team divisions in male, female, coed, and youth categories.  This event usually sells out at 400 participants, so register now.
