Arnold L. Swensen, retired tugboat captain
Mr. Arnold L. Swensen, 77, of Millsboro, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014.
Mr. Swensen was born Oct. 7, 1936, in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Lars and Aslaug Swensen. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Harvey Swensen; and his wife Mary.
He worked as a tugboat captain for most of his life. Arnold attended Grace United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran and member of the VASA Order of America and Lodge Vogen 588. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and dancing. He was a wonderful, honest and hardworking man who was very helpful and caring, a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ingrid Swensen of Millsboro; three sons; Leslie George Swensen and his wife Lora, Sven Eric Swensen and his wife Debbie, and John Charles Swensen and his wife Kelly; a daughter, Linda Ann Chiarella and her husband Michael; four sisters, Sonja Marjorie and husband Joe, Lillian Pierce, Esther Getz and husband Roger and Lollie Huhn and husband Junior; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
Services will be held privately at a later date.
