Milton brings back Mayberry with July 4 town celebration

June 20, 2014

Plans are underway for a full day of fun-filled family activities to celebrate the Fourth of July in Milton.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m. in Milton’s Memorial Park with an old-fashioned Picnic in the Park sponsored by the Milton community. Activities for kids of all ages include a dunk tank, sack races, pie-baking contest and games. A highlight will be a bike decorating contest and bike parade sponsored by Irish Eyes Pub and Restaurant. Grand prizes of two brand-new bikes will be awarded to the winners - one each to the best boy and girl entries.Throughout the day there will be music and entertainment in the gazebo, the Lions Club train will be running, food vendors will offer a variety of options, and everyone can enjoy free ice cream.

The Farmers Market will be open from 3 to 6 p.m. with live music and an excellent selection of fresh, local produce, meats, seafood, baked goods, dairy items, eggs, plants and other locally grown and made products. Prepared foods are also available. Bring a cooler to keep purchases fresh as more entertainment will be in Memorial Park from 7 to 9 p.m.

A special Fourth of July concert featuring the group Footlights performing big band-era music and vocals will be featured in the gazebo beginning at 7 p.m. The evening concert is sponsored by County Bank.

Volunteers and sponsors are still welcome to participate. Contact Maryellen Kiernan at mare@irisheyespub.com or call 302-684-8889 for further information.
