Cape Water Taxi to lead osprey banding tours starting June 25
After a long and cold winter, Cape Water Taxi and Tours is up and running with a new vessel and several new tours.
On June 25, 27, 29, and July 2 and 14, Cape Water Taxi and Tours Eco Tours will feature a rare opportunity. Capt. Steve Cardano will take passengers to osprey nesting platforms where he will place identification tags on the osprey fledglings before they begin to fly. This practice does not hurt the birds and is done specifically to gather information about the birds such as migration patterns, life span and behaviors. These opportunities are few as the optimal time to band these magnificent birds is when they are seven to eight weeks old.

Cape Water Taxi and Tours offers a variety of experiences on the water. In its fleet is The Discovery, a 54-foot custom-built beauty. It features twin 150 HP engines, two restrooms and comfortable seating for 75 passengers. The Discovery will operate primarily between Lewes and Dewey Beach.
New to the fleet is The Mummichog II. At 54 feet, the Mummichog II is a pontoon-type vessel. With twin outboard Yamaha engines and a restroom, 49 passengers can cruise comfortably from the docks at the newly renovated Bayside Paradise Grill in Long Neck.
In addition to water taxi service, eco tours, sunset cruises, To The Bay and Back Cruise, Kids Camp and private charter services, Cape Water Taxi and Tours has added two new cruises: Water Shuttle Service for the Indian River Bay Area originates from Pot-Nets Bayside Paradise Grill with destinations to various ports in the Indian River Bay. Delaware Bay Discovery Cruise traverses the waters of the Delaware Bay. This three-hour cruise will be led by experienced science educators who will sample the waters of the Delaware Bay with nets to reveal small animal plankton, bottom-dwelling invertebrates and a variety of fish. This is a hands-on activity, so come prepared for hands a little bit wet and slimy. This cruise will also take in the local historical sites such as the lighthouse at the Harbor of Refuge at Cape Henlopen. Passengers will also have an opportunity to look along the shore for diverse bird life and waterfowl.
