VIA presents books to Sussex Academy

June 27, 2014

The Village Improvement Association, as part of its education outreach, presented 20 copies of "Sunrise Over Fallujah" by Walter Dean Myers to Sussex Academy. The VIA participates in World Book Night, which provides free books to interested readers.

Every year on April 23, Shakespeare’s birthday, books are made available in countries around the world. The United States is participating for the second time. "Sunrise over Fallujah" is on the reading list for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, which Sussex Academy will provide, as it expands its middle school program to include high school. Sussex Academy is the only charter school in Sussex County.

At the presentation are (l-r) Donna Mabry, VIA education chair; Sussex Academy student Erin Kay; Mary Folan, VIA education co-chair; and Kathy Kay, Sussex Academy English teacher.
