Coastal Concerts elects two new board members
Coastal Concerts, which promotes classical music appreciation in central Delmarva, recently elected two new members to its board of directors.
Don Matzkin, an architect, and Pat Porta, a nursing manager, will each serve three-year terms. Their election increases the Coastal Concerts board to 10 members.
Matzkin, who along with his wife cofounded Friday Architects/Planners in Philadelphia in 1970, retired in 2010 and brought his commitment to nonprofit service to the Lewes area. He currently engages in pro bono architectural work for local institutions including the Design Committee for the new Lewes Public Library and the Museum Planning Committee of the Lewes Historical Society. He is a graduate of Cornell University and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Porta, who earned her nursing degree with high honors from Rutgers University, held nursing management positions with several New Jersey-based companies including AT&T Bell Laboratories, Lucent Technologies and Avaya Inc. In addition to Coastal Concerts, her volunteer activities include the Lewes Public Library and the committee for the Pink Affair to Remember, which raises money for women affected by cancer.
Coastal Concerts’ five-concert season begins in October 2014 and runs through March 2015. In addition to those performances, the nonprofit organization provides scholarships to musically talented high school students in Sussex County. It also takes visiting performers to area schools for interactive educational programs, provides donated musical instruments to schools’ music departments, and presents lectures to enhance the appreciation of classical music.
