State parks to offer free sandcastle demonstrations starting July 6

Sandcastle Contest July 12
July 1, 2014

Delaware Seashore State Park’s annual Sandcastle Contest will take place Saturday, July 12. Although this will be the 34th year for the contest, it is the first year the state parks will offer sandcastle-building demonstrations during the week leading up to the big day.

There will be two free demonstrations hosted by local sandcastle-building expert Darrell O’Connor.  O’Connor will present a program Sunday, July 6, at Fenwick Island State Park; participants should meet near the main bathhouse. He will host another program Friday, July 11, at Delaware Seashore State Park near the South Inlet day area. Both programs begin at 9 a.m., and participants are encouraged to bring their own buckets and shovels.

The Sandcastle Contest will also be held at the South Inlet day area Saturday, July 12, starting at 9:30 a.m. As always, the contest is free to enter and prizes will be awarded. Participants do not need to register in advance.
