Lewes man starts second pet business

Guy Weidner-Ahorrio of Lewes loves animals, and now he's sharing his passion with other pet owners.

Weidner-Ahorrio recently opened Dolly's Pet First Aid and CPR LLC, offering interactive courses to teach pet owners how to perform CPR, first aid, senior pet care and even dental care for their cats and dogs.

“We wanted to empower and teach people in case of an emergency,” he says.

He said the courses not only address emergencies; they also help prevent them.

Weidner-Ahorrio teaches nine courses, 1 to 8 hours each, at Epworth United Methodist Church and other locations in Rehoboth. He also offers private classes for people in their homes. He teaches per month; two to three times. Each course has five to 10 participants. They are offered to all ages but mostly draw in ages 12 and up.

Weidner-Ahorrio uses life-size dog mannequins to teach the courses, including yellow Labrador retrievers, poodles, and a German shepherd.

Graduates of the courses receive completion certificates, wallet cards and patches.

Weidner-Ahorrio also owns Dolly's Pet Sitting Services LLC, which he started in 2011 with his partner, Jose, in honor of their dog, Dolly, who later died of cancer. The company provides daycare, nightcare, dog-walking and other services.

Weidner-Ahorrio gave up a six-figure career as a clinical research consultant to work with pets.

“Taking care of animals is my life and my passion,” he says.

Weidner-Ahorrio earned certification in early June to teach pet courses in first aid and CPR from Pet Tech, the first international training center for pet first aid and CPR.

He brings the same dedication and enthusiasm from his first business to his newest.

When people call to ask for help, the answer is yes, he said. “We never say no.”
