Midway Lions award scholarships to local students

July 13, 2014

The Midway Lions Charitable Foundation has once again awarded two $1,000 scholarships to area students. Cape Henlopen High School Class of 2014 graduate Justin Lopez will be attending Salisbury University to obtain a degree in pre-veterinary medicine.

The other recipient is Sarah Bell, who graduated from Sussex Tech. Bell will be attending Delaware Tech to obtain an associate's degree in elementary education, then move on to Wilmington University for her bachelor's degree.

Both students attended the May 19 meeting of the Midway Lions, and each gave an outstanding account of their goals in life and thanked all members for the scholarship funds, which they said would be put to good use.

Last year’s recipient, Bethany Killmon, finished her freshman year on the dean's list at Misericordia University.

The foundation hopes to increase the amount of the scholarships in the future by continuing to sell ads for the Governors Ball and accepting donations from local businesses. All donations to the foundation are tax deductible and help the youth of the community. To donate, contact Tom Coco at 302-947-2463.
