New Jersey woman finds sense of community at Plantation Lakes

July 27, 2014

When Arlene Lagattuta first saw Plantation Lakes, Lennar’s resort community in Millsboro, she felt as if she had come home.

“There was so much activity,” she said. “There were people of all ages, families, teenagers and young children. They were out playing, riding bicycles, walking their dogs. People nodded their heads or waved to us as we toured the community. It was warm and welcoming, a real community feel. It gave me the sense that I had come home.”

Lagattuta is retired and single. She was seeking a place that would be an easy drive to her daughter’s home in Maryland. When she asked her realtor for a place with a sense of community, he suggested Plantation Lakes.

Plantation Lakes will feature five amenity-packed facilities, a total of 26,000-plus square feet of recreation space. Swimming, tennis, basketball, bocce and pickle ball, a fitness center, tot lot and walking paths are all included.

The golf course is a prominent feature at Plantation Lakes, stretching over 200 acres. A 6,500-plus square foot golf clubhouse, The Great House, will feature golf-related amenities such as a fully staffed pro shop, locker rooms and casual dining. The golf course will be open for daily public play, but members will receive first preference for tee times as well as discounted foursome and cart fees.

Lagattuta is enjoying workouts at the gym, which features huge windows that overlook the golf course. “You look outside and you see the guys and gals playing,” she said. “It’s great.” She’s also a regular at the community yoga class and enjoys the outdoor walking trails. “The women here have a Saturday chat group, where you can bring needlepoint or a craft and just get together and talk. There’s so much to do. You can be as busy as you want to be.”

When it is completed, Plantation Lakes will feature over 2,300 homes including luxury town homes and single-family homes on over 700 acres. Lagattuta moved in September 2013. She chose the Bridgewater model, which she describes as the perfect size for her. She enjoyed the Everything’s Included! feature of her home which helped streamline the decision-making process. “It had everything I wanted. I only needed to buy a washer and dryer.”

She also is enjoying the community’s central location, less than 20 miles inland from Delaware’s finest beach resorts. Plantation Lakes is close to major roadways, including routes 113, 24 and 20. The community also is within three hours of Baltimore, Md; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia, Pa.; and southern New Jersey.

Plantation Lakes is a community by Lennar, a national award-winning builder renowned for construction, design and customer satisfaction. Lennar has incorporated a variety of value-added details at Plantation Lakes, including its fuel source. Most Sussex County communities depend upon propane. But Plantation Lakes is fueled by natural gas, an economical power source that will keep monthly utility bills at all time lows.

Lennar also makes the home-buying process easier by offering its own mortgage and title services via Universal American Mortgage Company and North American Title Company, respectively. Pricing at Plantation Lakes is competitive, starting in the low $100s for town homes and in the mid $200s for single-family homes.
