James F. Marker, commercial clammer

James F. Marker, 83, formerly of Camp Arrowhead Road, Lewes, died in Baltimore, Md., Tuesday, July 1, 2014.

Born Nov. 11, 1930, on a farm near Odessa to Walter and Mary Marker, Jim held a lifelong love of Delaware's estuaries. In search of ducks, geese and deer in winters, and crabs, clams and flounder in summers, were always more important than work. The then-new General Foods, Dover facility employed Jim upon opening in 1963. He became a fulltime clammer in 1978, raking the Inland Bays for 12 years selling to local vendors.

Survivors include:a  sister Peggy Coblentz of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla.; daughter Cheryl Marker and husband Alan Katz and grandchildren Olivia, twins Juliet and Samuel Katz of New York, N.Y.; son Darryl Marker of Lewes; and grandson George Z. Marker and wife Jaime of Lincoln.
