Possum Point Players: Spots still available for July 21-25 kids' theater camp

July 14, 2014

There’s still a lot of summer left, and Possum Point Players have the solution if kids are already bored with sleeping in and playing with little sister. The Players are still taking registrations for the July 21-25 Theatre Academy for grades five-10 and the Aug. 4-8 Drama Camp for those going into grades two to five.

Camp tuition is $185 per camper; some "camperships" are available. For information, call Possum Point Players’ office, 302-856-3460. Registration forms are available at possumpointplayers.org. Completed forms and tuition may be delivered or mailed to Possum Hall, 441 Old Laurel Road, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Theatre Academy provides an introduction to and exploration of many aspects of a theater production. Acting is only part of the experience. Those who have an eye for creating scenery or setting a mood with lighting will learn how these skills coordinate with acting, costuming and sound effects to complete a production. Some vocal work, a dance step or two, and lots of focus on creation and an end product will all be part of the theatre camping week.

In Drama Camp, youngsters will enjoy getting frisky and a little wild as they act out their favorite animals while they learn more about theater. The emphasis is on fun, but lessons in concentration and focus occur painlessly while the show goes on. Some music and dance may also be included as the campers create their own production.

The Monday-Friday camps are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, and theater doors open at 8:30 a.m. Each camp will conclude with the production the youngsters created over the week of learning and experiencing.

Both camps are directed by theater/drama teacher Linda Killion. Former and current members of Possum Juniors will assist some modules of camp. Several are theater students in college, and many act in area theater productions.
