Epworth's Visual Arts to exhibit Pressing Matters: Linocuts starting July 27

July 21, 2014

The Visual Arts Program at Epworth Church announces a new exhibit of original art by printmaker Toby Jo Vandiver. The public is invited to an opening reception from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sunday, July 27, in Scotts Gallery, in Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach.

Vandiver was born in Fayetteville, Ark., in 1984. She spent her childhood living in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma. She attended the Delaware College of Art and Design, and Corcoran College of Art and Design to study fine art, focusing mostly on printmaking.  Vandiver lives in Rehoboth Beach and can be found at Rehoboth Art and Framing where she works as a framing consultant. She also creates works of art out of her printmaking studio at The Studios on Walnut in Milton.

“My source of inspiration comes from those random magazine clippings not usually looked at twice. I also use photos that I have taken myself, mostly from nature. It is an intuitive process for me,” says Vandiver.

As a youngster, she was inspired by watching her father create stained glass. She says, “The process that he used is very similar to the way I approach my work: the initial construction of an image, the breakdown of that image into simple geometric shapes and then piecing them back together with a good balance of color, shape and form.”

This show will remain in Scotts Chapel until Sept. 7. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sundays.
