Lewes majors fall to Woodbridge 5-3, meet again for District 3 championship

The Lewes major league boys' baseball team fell to Woodbridge 5-3 Sunday, July 13 to set up a District 3 championship rematch at Bridgeville between the two squads. Woodbridge battled out of the losers' bracket after falling 4-2 to Millsboro July 7.

Luke Johnson pitched 4 1/3 innings for Lewes, striking out eight and allowing just three hits and two walks. Jake Gelof came in and pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief, striking out four and allowing just three hits.

Bryan Ciabattoni went 1-3 for Lewes with a single to knock in the first run of the game. Mason Fluharty hit a sacrifice grounder in the fifth inning to give Lewes the 3-1 lead until Woodbridge's Ricky Kane went yard with a grand slam in the top of the sixth to put Woodbridge ahead to stay.

Woodbridge pitchers teamed to hold Lewes to just one hit in the game.
