Our Milton Garden Club is brilliant!

July 21, 2014

Too wonderful and a stroke of genius in the planning - garden hats off to our Milton Garden Club! Milton's 15th Annual Garden and Home Tour was a perfect trip along Union Street, and what better place to start than at the Memorial Gardens at the gazebo in Milton's Memorial Park.

The Milton Theatre was so wisely included and the rendering in the theatre lobby of a perhaps one day riverwalk connecting to the Governors' Walk and our John Milton statue and park. Here is a dream worth one day awakening to and naturally, it all begins by including such in the Milton Comprehensive plan.

Lovely homes and inspired and inspiring gardens were well worth the price of admission and let's hear it for any and every effort made at funding one of Milton's greatest assets, The Milton Garden Club and all of the artists capturing the light to remind of such a perfect summer's day!

Talk of an Underground Railway passage in one house, another claiming a one-room schoolhouse within its walls, as well as the 19th Century pharmacy that is a time capsule in and of itself and so many thanks to this resident owner's sharing once again, Welch's pharmacy - not to mention the incredible garden right there in Milton's downtown and for all to see - right across from the Lydia Black Cannon Museum, home to Milton's wonderful Historical Society.

And heartfelt thanks to the Lady of the Keyboard, playing so beautifully in "A Hidden Garden." She even let some fool of a two-legged variety of songbird sing along. Imagine that! And then there was the band... Oh, my! One last mention: I spied a particularly beautiful bloom from Pepper's Nursery - the variety with an infectious smile and especially when in her element, a garden!

Milton, you lovely little town that lies just close enough and perfectly far enough away from what can often be the Route One Madness of Summer - did I mention the tour was a sell-out? Yes, there was no better place to be Saturday, July 12, than on a trip down Union Street arranged by The Milton Garden Club. Milton, you could have hardly done better. Garden hats off to you too, O Wonderful Little Town!
