July 22, 2014

The Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce has announced it will host a Mayoral Debate and Commissioner’s Candidate’s Forum Wednesday, July 30, beginning at 9:30 a.m., in Rehoboth Beach City Hall Commissioners Room. The chamber has invited all declared candidates: incumbent Mayor Sam Cooper, Francis Markert, mayoral candidate Tom McGlone, Kathleen McGuiness, John Meng, Lawrence Myslewski, and incumbent Commissioner Lorraine Zellers. Place: Rehoboth Beach Convention Hall

Time: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Date: Wednesday, July 30

The event will begin with a mayoral debate between Cooper and McGlone. Candidates will be presented in alphabetical order. Four questions prepared by the chamber and unknown to the candidates will be asked. Each candidate will be allowed a one minute response to the question and one minute of rebuttal to their opponent.

A full candidates’ forum will follow the mayoral debate. Candidates for the office of commissioner will be presented in alphabetical order. The full forum will continue with seven questions prepared by the chamber and unknown to the candidates. All seven candidates, mayoral and commissioner will draw a question. The candidate drawing the question will have one minute to respond followed by a one minute response from all candidates alphabetically.

The forum will end with a Q&A session taken from the floor and directed to the candidates. The event timeline allows for approximately 10 minutes for questions. Questions taken from the floor may be no longer than one minute in length and non-repetitive. Given the number of candidates and timeline, questions will be directed to only one specific candidate. Candidates will be allowed a one minute response for the question from the floor.

The election will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.
