Benefit concert to support homeless shelter at Epworth UMC Aug. 16
A concert to benefit The Immanuel Shelter will be presented at 8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 16, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 19285 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach. The concert is titled I Wish You Love and comprises songs from the musical theater repertoire as performed by vocalist Sara Ford, accompanied by pianist Doug Yetter.
Immanuel Shelter is an emergency cold-weather shelter in Rehoboth Beach that operates seven days a week during the winter months to house the homeless in Sussex County. This past year, Immanuel housed over 120 individuals and served approximately 5,000 meals. Immanuel is funded totally from contributions, and administered and staffed by volunteers.
Ford is an accomplished singer/songwriter whose musical career began in New York City where she was a frequent soloist and had the honor of singing with guest conductor Leopold Stokowski. Ford is a graduate of Smith College and received her master’s degree from Sarah Lawrence College. She also enjoyed a career in education, teaching music and improvisation, and has produced two albums of her own songs. She has also performed locally for the Milton Historical Society and resides in Lewes.
Yetter, the musical director and accompanist for the evening, is artistic director of Clear Space Theatre Company of Rehoboth Beach, a nonprofit theater company he cofounded in 2004, and also serves as organist and co-director of music for Epworth United Methodist Church, as well as conductor of the CAMP Rehoboth Chorus. Yetter has made music, theater and musical theater his life for over 40 years, working as a musician, composer, actor, director, conductor, orchestrator, producer, arranger and theater owner. As a composer, his 15 works for the musical theater stage include “A Christmas Carol,” “Divine Terror,” and “The Watchers,” “Around the World in 80 Days,” “Dracula and an opera, “The Scarlett Letter” as well as hundreds of sacred works. Yetter received his bachelor of arts degree in composition at the University of Maryland, and his master of fine arts degree in musical theatre writing from New York University. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America, the American Federation of Musicians, The American Guild of Organists, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
There will be a Meet the Artists reception immediately after the performance in Fellowship Hall, with desserts generously donated by Frank & Louie’s Italian Specialties.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at the church office, 302-227-7743 or at the door on the evening of the performance. Ticket price is $20. All proceeds will benefit the Immanuel Shelter.
