Take a bite out of Lewes

July 17, 2014

I get emails from vacationers and even locals who ask me where they can get the best bang for their dining buck. The visitors are concerned that they might miss the latest/greatest eatery in their short time here on the Delaware coast, and the locals tell me, “We eat in the same places over and over again. Where can we go that’s different?”

You can only eat in so many restaurants in a day, right? Well, actually, wrong. and walking tours invite you into 5 of the best restaurants in either Lewes or Rehoboth – all in just 3 hours. And they even throw a cute specialty shop into the mix.

The downtown Rehoboth tours visit 5 different restaurants on each tour day and have become a household word over the last couple of years, consistently selling out with vacationers and locals alike. But the (relatively) new kid on the block is What better way to check out the lunch and dinner scene in the First Town in the First State than to drop in to 5 of the best joints for a bite, a sip (often alcoholic, so 21 and older, please) and exclusive information about each stop.

Tour company co-owners Deb Griffin, Paul Cullen and yours truly have assembled an impressive lineup of Lewes staples that consistently earn rave reviews.

Unlike Rehoboth, the walking time between restaurants in Lewes is much shorter, so Lewes resident and tour guide Deb has thrown in a few historical stops to lend even more flavor to the afternoon.

The Lewes lineup for 2014 features some of Lewes’ best, including Rose & Crown, Kindle, Striper Bites, Touch of Italy, Half Full and Edie Bee’s Confectionary, just to name a few. The walk starts at Biblion Books where we jump-start the fun with a bit of sparkling wine. Then each restaurant, in turn, steps up to the plate with a delicious bite (or two) of what they’re best at – plus that all-important sip! Often, the owner will greet the tour guests with a bit of history and Lewes legend.

A partnership with the Cape May-Lewes Ferry is in the offing, and will extend Lewes restaurant experiences across the Delaware Bay. So eat, sip, walk & discover simply by visiting or calling 800-979-3370.
