Osher Lifelong Learning gears up for fall with new classes, location
With a record number of classes - 80 - and a new location in Ocean View, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Delaware in Lewes readies for the fall semester. Classes are available at the Fred Thomas Building in Lewes and, starting this September, at the Town Hall & Community Center in Ocean View.
“Our curriculum this semester is very exciting, with a number of new classes on interesting topics, along with many returning favorites,” says Anna Moshier, program coordinator. “From our 25 years of experience, we have developed a diverse fall curriculum designed to attract new participants while satisfying the wishes of our loyal student community.”
Featuring a wide variety of learning opportunities for adults 50 and better, Osher Lewes’s fall 2014 semester runs from Tuesday, Sept. 2 to Tuesday, Nov. 18. The 10-week fall curriculum offers something for everyone. Subject areas range from literature and economics to computer science and philosophy. New this year are classes on Russian music and Australian history.
Among the classes being offered this fall are History of European Art, Acrylic Painting, Opera, Exploring the Samsung Smartphone, iPad Basics, Economics, Simplifying the Complexities of Retirement Planning, Delaware’s Naval Heritage, Three Consequential Collaborations (that helped to create the USA), Interesting Issues in Constitutional Law, Ethics: Philosophical Dilemmas, and more.
Registration is underway for the fall 2014 semester and is available online at www.lifelonglearning.udel.edu/lewes, by mail or in person at the Osher Lewes office, Fred Thomas Building, 520 DuPont Ave., Lewes DE 19958. The deadline for priority registration for the fall is Thursday, Aug. 14. Registrations received after Aug. 14 will be processed on a space-available basis.
Osher Lewes also offers a 10-week spring semester and a four-week June session every year. Most classes are held at the Fred Thomas Building and the new location, Ocean View Town Hall and Community Center. More benefits of membership include social activities, travel opportunities and other program special events.
In addition to being 50 years of age or over, the only other requirements for membership in Osher Lewes are an interest in continuing learning, support of the program through participation and a modest membership fee of $130 a semester or $225 for a full year (fall and spring semesters).
