Cape wins Junior League Baseball District Title

Town and travel ball continue to conflict In scheduling
July 22, 2014

The Cape Junior League All-Stars, who had obliterated two earlier opponents by a combined score of 29-0, limiting them to one hit, stayed the course against Millsboro in a winners' bracket final July 17 for a 3-0 victory.

Zach Gelof went the distance for Cape, hurling 7 innings while racking up 9 Ks.

Connor Thompson knocked in Gelof with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth for the first run of the game. Austin Elliot later scored from third on an ill-advised throw down to second on a steal attempt.

Millsboro put runners on second and third with no outs in the top of the sixth, but on a not-quite-passed ball and a” Go! Go! No! No! ”call from the third-base coach, the runner was tagged out running away from home back to third.

Cape won the District 3 title Saturday, July 19, beating Nanticoke 8-4.

The state tournament is up next, but player availability is up in the air as travel tournaments abound in the month of August.
