Internationally renowned coastal artist Ellen Rice will introduce the sixth painting in her widely collected Strength of Woman Series Wednesday, July 30, during a noon to 6 p.m. reception at her gallery in Ocean View.

"Reflection" is a 36-by-24-inch oil on canvas "about quiet times, gentle reflections and new beginnings," says Rice.

"The ocean's vastness and continual ebb and flow speak to our deepest need for a power larger than ourselves. Here at shore's edge we relax, let thoughts flow where they may, soak in the sunlight and are renewed."

Rice has written about the story of the woman in the painting and how it inspired her to paint “Reflection.” A copy of the story will be given away with each print.

Prints of “Reflection” will debut at noon, when Rice will talk briefly about the painting and be on hand to chat with the public and sign and remarque (do small pencil drawings in the margins of) prints of “Reflection” and any of her more than 100 paintings of the shore and beyond.

Introductory prices for “Reflection” will give collectors $50 off signed, numbered prints on paper and $75 off giclée prints on canvas from the debut July 30 through closing Wednesday, Aug. 6. A very limited number of small archival giclée proofs will be available for $90 each as long as supplies last.

Other paintings in Rice's Strength of Woman series can be viewed and their inspirational stories read at The women’s series are among Rice's most collected works, the artist said.

The Ellen Rice Gallery is celebrating its 15th anniversary this summer, and every person who makes a gallery purchase this summer is entered into a weekly drawing for works of art and fine craft by the gallery's more than 100 American artists and artisans, including handmade glass art, leather apparel, wearable art, jewelry and prints. The grand prize, to be awarded Labor Day weekend, is a small original Ellen Rice oil painting.
