Atlantic Theaters donates $5,000 to Epworth Skate Project

July 26, 2014

Atlantic Theaters recently made a $5,000 donation to Epworth Skate Project.

“Generous donations like this one go a long way toward helping us fund construction,” said Skate Project member Susan Selph. “We are so grateful for the investment in the youth of our community.”

Tiffany Derrickson, Atlantic Theaters owner and manager, was happy to contribute to the project. “This is an amazing asset to our community,” said Derrickson, “It’s something we’ve needed for a long time.“ Derrickson’s children have attended Epworth Preschool, so she sees firsthand how much use the existing skate area gets. “It’s a great way for kids to be active outdoors, and we see kids there all the time, especially when school is out,” Derrickson said.

The Skate Project began raising funds last August to upgrade wooden ramps at Epworth UM Church to a concrete skate park. Construction of the skate park is underway and is expected to be completed sometime in August. Because of its diverse features, the park will be appropriate for skateboarders of all ability levels. It will be free and open to the public.

Sponsors and donations to the project are still being sought. For more information, visit www.eumcrb.org/sk8 or call Susan Selph at 302-245-6193.
