Nonsense about front-facing garages in Lewes

July 31, 2014

In the article reporting on the Lewes HPC rejection of plans for a new home to be built at 238 Front Street, John Mateyko is quoted as objecting to a front-facing, attached garage, saying "no such homes exist in the historic district."

Mr. Mateyko, and the current members of the HPC, should visit Jefferson Avenue which is in the historic district. On this street there are, in fact, two homes with front facing, attached garages. One has been around for a while, the other is a relatively new build which received approval from the HPC.

There may be other grounds on which the HPC denied the current application, but, given precedent, a front-facing, attached garage should not be one of them.
