Milton brothers lay wreath at Arlington National Cemetery

Freddy and Michael Sposato of Milton recently completed a task they won't easily forget. The brothers placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

Freddy, 13, and Michael, 10, sons of founder and President of Sposato Landscape Co. Inc. Tony Sposato and wife Karen, were selected to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a result of the landscaping company's 14 years of ground improvement service at the national cemetery.

“It's one of those surreal moments,” said their mother, Karen. “This was an eye-opener for them.”

The boys said they were honored and excited to place the wreath, but they were nervous after being given specific instructions by guards about how the wreath is placed.

“I had no clue what I was getting into,” said Freddy.

“I didn't want to mess up,” added Michael.

Once the wreath was placed, with help from a guard, the boys said, the guards complimented them for their efforts.

Every year since 2000, Sposato Landscape travels to the cemetery along with other landscaping companies across the country to help preserve the cemetery's 624 acres, as part of a program organized by the Professional Land Care Network known as Renewal and Remembrance. Selected children brought by the companies have an opportunity to place a wreath on the tomb, and this year, it was Freddy and Michael who were chosen.
