The 17th Run for JJ July 27 was run under misty to drizzly conditions, reflecting a certain sadness that Jay Stein wasn’t there for the first time to host the race in honor of his son, who passed away 17 years ago at age 30.
Mauria Stein, Jay’s daughter, ran the race with her friend Rich Sargent in 32:14. Bill Sargent, Jay's running buddy on many of those high noon boardwalk runs, was also there.
“Running the race makes it a little easier,” Mauria said. "My dad loved hosting this race and just really enjoyed the runners.”
There were over 300 competitors counting racers and walkers and those registered in the Clydesdale and Filly categories.
Greg Laraia, 23, from Valley Cottage, N.Y., won in 17:06, followed by Sonny Landis in 17:40.
Jennifer Woods from Metuchen, N.J., was the first woman, in 19:24.
Eighteen-year-old twins from Madison, Ohio, Hilary (20:41) and Hannah Reigle (21:02) were second and fourth, busted up by Jen Cawthern in 20:51.
