Girl Scouts look to capture inner beauty Aug. 17

August 5, 2014

Girl Scout Troop 1482, in association with the Lewes Public Library, needs help answering the question: “How do you define beauty?” Using the library’s latest technology, the troop is making a public service announcement celebrating the qualities that make women and girls unique and beautiful.

The PSA will be entered in the Free Being Me PSA contest, part of a global leadership program between the Girl Scouts of the USA and Dove, developed to give girls a safe space to strengthen their self-confidence.

According to GSUSA, six out of 10 girls stop doing something they love because they feel bad about the way they look. Girl Scout Troop 1482 invites women and girls of all ages to come anytime between 1 and 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 17, to the Lewes Public Library at 111 Adams Ave. in Lewes and be a part of the PSA.

Participants will be asked to complete the sentence “I am beautiful because ...,” describing an inner quality which they feel makes them beautiful. Members of the troop will take a photo of each participant holding a sign with their individualized, completed sentence. The photos will be edited into a PSA for the contest and for sharing on the internet.

Participants must be females of any age, and will be required to sign a media release form. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can sign the form. Any Girl Scout who participates will receive a Free Being Me patch.
