Good Sam Club announces free concert for campers Sept. 4

Samboree continues through Sept. 7 at Delaware State Fairgrounds

Delaware Good Sam Club announces a free concert by Randy Lee Ashcraft and the Saltwater Cowboys for campers at 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 4. The free concert will mark the opening of the annual 2014 Delaware State Samboree Camping Event at the Delaware State Fairgrounds, Dover Building in Harrington. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. for registration and Meet & Greet.

All campers are invited to the free concert whether in a tent, popup, travel trailer, fifth wheel, motorhome, etc. There will be drawings, refreshments available and great entertainment. Those who are not camping should bring their own chairs. This event kicks off the club's Samboree weekend, Sept. 5-7.

Randy Lee Ashcraft and the Saltwater Cowboys are a great band straight from the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Ashcraft has been entertaining people all over the country for more than 20 years and has returned home to the Eastern Shore to perform for his favorite fans. A former Green Beret in the United States Army, Ashcraft has released five albums, which combined have sold over 20,000 copies.

He has opened for several national acts such as Joe Diffie, Colin Raye, Lonestar, Cherie Austin, Toby Keith, Travis Tritt, Phil Vassar, Aaron Tippin, and Sawyer Brown, and more recently in 2011 for Josh Turner and Sara Evans.

Once a year, the Good Sam Chapters of Delaware gather  in Harrington at the Delaware State Fairgrounds and host a Samboree weekend of fun, fellowship and camaraderie. Campers do not have to be Good Sam members to attend. The weekend includes: entertainment, seminars, games, food, a flea/craft market, a tour, ice cream social, morning hospitalities, camping and more.

The Delaware State Samboree has a host of activities planned, including theme costume contest, RV decorating contest, theme basket contest and mystery challenge. There will be a Friday morning tour to local Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, optional dinner Saturday evening catered by Smith’s Family Restaurant and door prizes.

Many charitable activities will also be going on including a nonperishable food drive; food collected will be delivered to a local food pantry. Saturday evening music will be by Go With The Flo Band, and Sunday morning, ministering the word through music will be John and Dody Martin plus much more.
