Zap Amateur World Championships Aug. 9-10

Event coincides with Vibes Fest

The 33rd annual Zap Amateur World Championship of Skimboarding will be held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9 and 10, on the beach at Saulsbury Street in Dewey Beach.

Competitors from around the globe will go head to head in one of the longest-running, most prestigious skimboarding events in the world. For more details, go to www.skimusa.org.

In addition to the championship, the Dewey Beach Summer Vibes Fest will be held, with a lineup of Dewey Beach events and entertainment supported by local businesses, the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce, Dewey Business Partnership, local artists and a very strong skimboarding community.

On Friday, Aug. 8, Alley Oop and East of Maui will partner for the SUP Spring Challenge on the bay at Northbeach, featuring a two-mile stand-up paddleboard race for the experienced and a one-mile beginner race for those looking to try their first SUP race. At 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, Danson's Amazing Traveling Circus Side Show will take the stage as the preliminary rounds of skimboarding competition come to an end.

At noon, Sunday, Aug. 10, Chef Hari Cameron of a(MUSE.) will join the competition at lunch break to share his passion for all things culinary with a demonstration and beach-inspired dessert creation for the audience to sample.

The weekend will conclude with the skimboarding finals and awards between 5 and 6 p.m., Aug. 10, followed by contest celebrations, food, drink and musical entertainment at The Starboard, Gary's Dewey Beach Grill, Woody's, Northbeach and Hammerheads.
