Southern States announces alliance with Kentucky Equine Research

August 19, 2014

Southern States Cooperative, manufacturers of the Legends line of premium horse feeds, has announced a strategic alliance with Kentucky Equine Research, an internationally acclaimed equine nutrition, research and consulting company based in Lexington, Ky.

“We’re proud of our Legends line of feeds,” said Southern States Vice President for Feed Operations Jim Moore, “but we never want to stop improving our formulas, so we’re very excited about this new relationship with KER and the value they can add to this very successful brand.”

Initial plans for the Legends product line will be the addition of the highly regarded KER Micronutrient vitamin and trace mineral premixes.

“We’re excited to partner with Southern States and to fortify the Legends feed line with Kentucky Equine Research’s proven micronutrients,” said Kentucky Equine Research President and founder Dr. Joe Pagan. “Additionally, Southern States will utilize KER’s digital technologies to provide technical nutritional support and valuable information to horse owners and managers. KER and Southern States share a commitment to ensuring horses receive the best feed, tested and proven by science.”

As of Aug. 15, Southern States field staff have access to KER’s MicroSteed On-Line Ration Evaluation Software Technology, which will allow them to advise equine customers on the exact nutritional requirements for their horses.

A new website has been developed for Legends customers to keep up-to-date with the latest research on equine nutrition, health and practical tips for the horse enthusiast. The site has content from KER’s award-winning EQUINEWS publication, as well as original content from KER’s staff veterinarians, equine nutritionists, and contributors.

The reader can also find an extensive library of articles, as well as links to electronic newsletters, videos, and free downloadable reports to help horse owners, managers, trainers, and veterinarians keep up-to-date with the latest in equine care and management. Legends.equinews.com can be accessed directly or linked from www.southernstates.com.

“By leveraging Kentucky Equine Research’s nutritional expertise and long-standing experience in developing outstanding feed products for the equine market,” said Moore, “we look forward to making our Legends line of feeds even better for our equine customers.”
