Yes U Can USA, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing fitness and recreation opportunities for people with limited mobility, is organizing an accessible evening pontoon boat tour from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, leaving from the Indian River Marina.
The tour will be narrated by a naturalist from Delaware Seashore State Park and will focus on the habitat and wildlife of the Indian River and Rehoboth Bay. The boat, captained by Don Tollett of The Sand Dollar, is accessible for those using mobility aids, including wheelchairs.
“We’ve had such great success enabling the mobility-assisted community to enjoy the outdoors in New Castle and Kent counties, that we want to expand the program to Sussex County,” said Vickie George, cofounder and president/CEO of Yes U Can USA.
George said the organization is planning future outings in conjunction with Delaware Seashore State Park such as walks on accessible state park paths, as well as fishing and birding programs. Delaware Seashore State Park interpretive manager Laura Scharle said, “We are pleased to have the opportunity to work with Yes U Can USA and hope to continue to offer more and more accessible programs.”
The Aug. 27 pontoon boat trip has limited space available. The registration deadline is Thursday, Aug. 21. To sign up, go to www.yesucanusa.org/yes-u-can-evening-pontoon-boat-trip. Tickets are $25 per person, nonrefundable. The rain date is Wednesday, Sept. 3.
