Simpler campaign for treasurer raises more than $300,000

August 18, 2014

The Ken Simpler for State Treasurer campaign posted strong results in its 30-day financial report. The campaign raised $314,651 in the first seven months of fundraising. Upon filing the report, Simpler released the following statement:

“I am deeply humbled by the breadth and depth of support that we’ve received from every corner of Delaware and beyond,” said Simpler. “People clearly understand that the State Treasurer is a finance position and requires someone with finance experience. I am the only candidate on either side of the aisle in this campaign with a finance background. Over 20 years, I’ve managed a billion dollar portfolio for a global investment firm and served as a CFO of a Delaware small business. I am ready to serve as the next State Treasurer, and I am deeply grateful to the hundreds of people who have given of their hard-earned money to help me win this election.”

The Simpler Campaign heads into the September 9 Republican primary with great momentum from these results, reflecting the broad support Simpler has earned among Republicans all across the state.

“To those voting in the Republican Primary September 9, these results show that we are prepared to fight the long general election battle, win the election and return a conservative approach to the Treasurer’s office,” said Simpler. “It’s time to return balance to our statewide offices and put some teeth back into the state’s financial watchdog. One party rule has been bad for Delaware families, and it’s time for change. We must do better, and I pledge myself to the cause of reform as your next State Treasurer.”

Simpler presently serves as the Chief Financial Officer of Rehoboth Beach-based Seaboard Hotels. He previously managed a successful billion dollar portfolio for a global financial institution, Citadel LLC.  Simpler is a board member for Draper Holdings, the parent company of WBOC TV, and a finance committee member of Beebe Healthcare.

A Delaware native, Simpler received his diploma from St. Andrew’s School in Middletown and graduated from Princeton University. He holds advanced degrees from the University of Chicago in both business and law, and is currently completing his master of public administration from the University of Delaware.

Simpler is a resident of Newark along with his wife, Liz, and their three children.
