Crew hand fills rumble strips along Route 9

August 15, 2014

A crew from contractor Safety Improvements fills in rumble strips along Route 9 near Lewes in an ongoing project to repair strips that did not meet Delaware Department of Transportation standards. Once the strips were filled, they were rolled down flat.

Two miles of strips on sections of Route 9 and Route 24 were placed too close to the edge of the road, which did not allow a four-foot minimum space as required between rumble strips and the edge of the shoulder to provide a safe lane for cyclists and pedestrians.

This year more than 70 miles of rumble strips have been placed along major roads in Sussex County.
