Law enforcement Family and Friends Day Aug. 30

The Delaware State Police United Troopers Alliance and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement are planning a day to enjoy with families and friends Saturday, Aug. 30, at Camp Barnes in Ocean View.

Events begin at 8:30 a.m. with a 100-meter kiddie run with awards to all finishers.  A 5K run/walk takes off at 9 a.m.  Fee is $10 until Thursday, Aug. 28, $13 on day of race; awards will go to top performers in age groups. T-shirts will be given to the first 50 to register.

Check-in for a basketball tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. with the first game at 11. Fee is $15.

All proceeds will support Pathways to Success Inc., a nonprofit organization whose mission is to prepare youth, adults and their families for successful lives. Pathways utilizes innovative and creative approaches in mentoring, education, and community outreach to inform, educate, and empower.

Throughout the day attendees will have free access to a swimming pool, lake with kayaking, flag football, music and food. Several vendors/organizations will be in attendance to provide health screenings and awareness for attendees.

No baby strollers are allowed in the run portion of the event. Attendees may walk with strollers. No dogs are allowed due to insurance liability.

This is an opportunity for law enforcement, family and friends throughout the state of Delaware to share a fun, educational day together.
