Alexander Wisniewski II, King of Kielbasa

Alexander E. Wisniewski II passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014.

As a child, growing up on Van Buren Street, he was known to his family as "Sonny." He was born Feb. 19, 1941, in Wilmington. After briefly residing in Middletown, he then retired to Pot Nets Bayside where he became well known in the community, and could always be relied upon to offer his colorful opinion on any number of topics.

Known as “Whiz” at Salesianum High School, he also attended the University of Delaware and worked for the Wilmington News Journal for 30-plus years.

He is survived by his wife, of 19 years, Suzanne Wisniewski.

Our beloved "Dziadia" also leaves behind three children; two stepchildren; and enough grand and great-grandchildren to require multiple trips to transport toys on Christmas Eve. In addition, Alex leaves behind two four-legged children named Addie and Mika, who he loved to take on cart rides.

“Pops“ took fashion cues from no one. His signature everyday look consisted of whatever complimentary T-shirt was clean, and a pair of old school crocs.

Everyone who knew Pops would agree, he had a true love of life, which he lived to the fullest. Whether he was spending time at the beach, fishing, cooking, traveling, or yelling at the "Pennsylvaaay-nians," everything was done with a Polish passion.

He will be most missed on Christmas Eve where he played the part of Santa’s helper and kielbasa weekend where he became the “King of Kielbasa.” These were his two most celebrated holiday traditions.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service Saturday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 East Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call an hour earlier. A Celebration of Life "LU-AL" will be held immediately following. To fully embrace his spirit, please wear resort attire to both events.
