Scrapple Recipe Cook-off set Oct. 4 at Consumer Expo

August 25, 2014

The Delaware Small Business Chamber, the state’s only chamber focused solely on the small business community in the State of Delaware and surrounding communities, will host the third Delaware Consumer Expo & Marketplace Saturday, Oct. 4 at the Astro Shopping Center in Newark.

This year the DSBC has added what members hope will become a signature event, The Scrapple Recipe Cook-off, where both amateur and professional cooks can compete for a best-in-show $500 cash prize for creating a recipe that will feature the cook-off main sponsor’s RAPA Scrapple line of scrapple including Habbersett, Original Pork, Beef, Turkey, Bacon and Chipotle.

The Delaware Small Business Chamber is calling for professional chefs and home cooks to enter the contest. Each entry is only $10 and will be featured in a recipe booklet in print and online. To enter the contest, sign up at

Another DSBC member, Firewaters, part of Atilla Wings, will be making a variety of scrapple sandwiches to sell to the public the day of the event. The public will have an opportunity to sample some of the recipes during the contest fron noon to about 2 p.m. and will be able to vote for their favorite recipe featuring scrapple. Bob Older, president of the Delaware Small Business Chamber, said to look for recipes that may include scrapple pizza, scrapple chili, spaghetti and scrapple, and whatever else the mind can come up with.

The Delaware Consumer Expo & Marketplace will also have over 40 small business vendors to promote small businesses and their services and products. Some of the products and services include travel, handbags and accessories, energy savings, swim instruction for kids, junk removal, insurance and much more. Vendor space is still available.

The Delaware Small Business Chamber has been steadily growing at about 60 percent a year and has been well received by the small business community as well as the larger companies in Delaware that look to do business with small business entrepreneurs. The DSBC offers members up to 72 free events a year including networking mixers, educational seminars and the 6-Top Mingle referral program.

Consumers can call and request a product or service and the chamber will refer qualified companies to the consumer under the Need-a-Service program. For more information, or to join the chamber go to or call 302-482-2120.
