Friends of Delaware Veterans enlists in Chamber of Commerce

August 28, 2014

The Friends of Delaware Veterans Inc. has joined the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce to spread the word about its mission to help Delaware veterans.

The nonprofit Friends group is made up of community leaders from across the state, works under the auspices of the Commission of Veterans Affairs and is tasked with fundraising for the Delaware Veterans Trust Fund. The trust fund was signed into law Sept. 17, 2013, by Gov. Jack Markell but is responsible for raising the majority of its own funding.

“Joining the nearly thousand-member chamber is a great way to let the business community know about the Veterans Trust Fund,” said Dave Skocik, Friends president.

Because its members are volunteers and use borrowed offices to hold meetings, the Veterans Trust Fund returns 100 percent of contributions to honorably discharged veterans residing in Delaware. Applicants are screened for eligibility and need.

“We will take advantage of our chamber membership to spread the word about the fund and particularly about our upcoming fundraising dinner at the Modern Maturity Center Nov. 7,” said Paul Davis, the organization’s vice president.

Preparation for the black tie optional event is underway, with details to be released in coming weeks. For more information, call Dave Skocik at 302-736-8500 or email dskocik@aol.com.
