Dance party Aug. 31; purchase tickets in advance
August 27, 2014

The Sundance Auction and Cocktail Buffet will be held from 7 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Held each year on the first night of Sundance weekend, the Sundance Auction features an open bar all night, food by Plate Catering, and an amazing array of travel, art, event, dining, and gift items, with Lorne Crawford as auctioneer.

Tickets are $45 and should be purchased in advance, as space is limited. The event benefits CAMP Rehoboth.

The Sundance Auction is part of a two-night event hosted by CAMP Rehoboth every Labor Day weekend. In addition to a week for two in a luxury timeshare, items up for bid include a European cruise for two on Celebrity to any one of several destinations, donated by Accent On Travel; an Olivia Travel Thanksgiving cruise for two to Mexico; a week in Costa Rica; a Broadway package that includes a night in the Ritz Carlton, $300 Broadway show tickets, and dinner for two in Manhattan; original paintings by Murray Archibald, Ward Elllinger, and Bill Snow; men’s and women’s jewelry from Elegant Slumming; and a wedding reception dinner for 12 at Nage in Rehoboth that includes the cake and the officiant’s services. Many more items will be offered, and there is something for every price range.

“Each year the auction items get more exciting,” says Archibald, CAMP Rehoboth board president. “It’s great to see residents, visitors, community leaders, and business owners, all getting together to have a fantastic time, snap up some fabulous bargains, and support a great cause.”

The second night of the Sundance event is a high-intensity dance party, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 31. Mark Thomas creates a musical journey for the hundreds of partygoers who crowd the dance floor. Paul Turner turns up the heat with his amazing lights and special effects.

Participants can choose to enjoy the auction event or the dance or can attend both. Tickets are $45 for one night or $80 for both events. The presenting sponsor for Sundance 2014 is BNY Mellon Wealth Management. Diamond sponsors are Move2Rehoboth.com - Karen Gustafson, and Sea Bova Associates. Gold sponsors are Gayla Inc., Maplewood Dental, CIO Federal IT, Outlet Liquors, Sign*A*rama, Len Smith, Ketel One Vodka, and Morris James LLC.

The Sundance event began in 1988, inspired by the need to do something in response to the growing AIDS epidemic and the terrible devastation it was causing. Funds raised by the benefit went toward education and health services in the Rehoboth community. In the 26 years since the first Sundance, the event has raised close to $2 million, first for AIDS and later for the wellness of the entire community.

Sundance continues to raise much-needed funds for CAMP Rehoboth, an organization that operates a full-service community center; offers a variety of activities, cultural events, service projects, and educational programs; and advocates for a community of inclusion in Rehoboth Beach. All proceeds from the event benefit CAMP Rehoboth, a 501c3 nonprofit corporation, and support the activities and programs it provides to the Rehoboth community. Tickets can be purchased online at camprehoboth.com or at the CAMP Rehoboth office, 37 Baltimore Ave. in Rehoboth Beach. Cash, check, American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover are accepted. For more information call 302-227-5620.
