Cape soccer scrimmages Delmarva Christian, opens Sept. 6 versus Tower Hill
The Cape soccer team rolled the Royals of Delmarva Christian High School Aug. 25 in a friendly scrimmage at Legends Stadium, easing out to a 5-0 halftime lead and not really trying to score after that.
"We have a final scrimmage at home against Stephen Decatur Sept. 2, which should give us a better idea where we stand," said coach Jay Jenkins.
"I have been happy with our practices, and I know most of the players, having coached them in Henlopen soccer. I see no reason we can't compete at the level Cape competed last season," Jenkins said. "The goal is to get into the tournament and win games. We saw mostly every team in the state at the Kirkwood play day, and I think we can compete with any of them. Now we just have to go out and do it."
Cape opens its season playing Tower Hill at the new Dover High School at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6.
Cape beat the Hillers 2-1 in last year's season opener.
