Cape field hockey raises buckets and money for ALS

August 29, 2014

The Ice Bucket Challenge to raise funds and awareness for ALS was accepted by the Cape Henlopen field hockey team from the cross country team.

Last Monday at the conclusion of practice, all sizes and colors of buckets were hoisted in more or less team coordination for some serious self-dousing followed by predictable screaming.

The team is donating their money - something close to $400 - to the Iron Mike DeStasio ALS Fund.

Mike is five years down the road with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, aka Lou Gehrig's Disease; his son Mikey is a student at Cape and daughter Allie is a Cape graduate and student at Sacred Heart University.

Mike's wife, Wendy DeStasio, is a pharmacist at SuperFresh.
