Cape Henlopen Elks to host crab feast Sept. 27

September 3, 2014

Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 will host its first crab feast from 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27. The event will offer crabs, fried chicken, crab soup, cole slaw, baked beans, corn on the cob, draft beer and soda. Crabs will be served until 5:30. Music by DJ Patrick Clark, a 50/50 raffle and games of chance will also be part of the day.

Chairman Wayne Becraft said, “This is our first crab feast, and we hope to have others.” Price is $40 per person, $12 for children ages 6-12. Tickets are available from the lodge bartender. No tickets will be sold at the door. Call the lodge at 302-645-7016 for more information. The Elks Lodge is at 18544 Beaver Dam Road, Lewes. This fundraiser will benefit lodge debt reduction.

Cape Henlopen Elks offers many community events: an all-you-can-eat breakfast the second Sunday of each month; a reasonably priced dinner dance from 6 to 10 p.m. with live music on the last Friday of the month: a Mother’s Day breakfast each year which all mothers are welcome to enjoy free. In November, the Elks will have an open invitation to all veterans to enjoy a lunch buffet - more information to follow.

Many residents do not know the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge has the second largest space in the region. The George Horneck Hall will hold up to 250 people and is available to the public for rental; nonprofits could receive a substantial discount.

House Committee Chairman Leo Mangold said, “The Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 is proud to offer our spacious and well-appointed Banquet Hall for large gatherings, such as wedding receptions, reunion or anniversary parties, club meetings and corporate events." For more information contact Chris Pepe or Debbie Roberts at 302-645-7016, Ext. 10.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is a philanthropic fraternal organization which invests in its communities through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, by undertaking projects that address unmet needs, and by honoring the service and sacrifice of veterans.
